Jupiter enters Sidereal Taurus on May 1 2024. It has been transiting through Aries since April 21 2023. Jupiter represents our beliefs, convictions, the stories we tell ourselves about how the world works, what things mean, and what we believe to be true. In the Mars ruled sign of The Ram, this last year we have been toying with how much we believe in our own will power. Jupiter in Aries asked, “How much can I, by myself, achieve? What do I believe I can do? What people, teachers, places, and ideologies is it possible for me to leave?”
Since last April we all have hopefully realized that we’re capable of doing more than we previously thought. We’ll know we have successfully passed Jupiter’s assignment if we no longer believe many of the things we believed last spring. An A+ goes to those who also now accept our innate power as the truth. We are stronger, tougher, smarter, and more powerful than we were last year because Aries pushed us to take chances, break the barriers, and most importantly - believe in ourselves. Harriet Tubman and Martin Luther King Jr. are two people who have natal Jupiter in Aries. Consider their audacity and relentless belief in their power to change our circumstances. Remember their unwavering conviction in taking up space as we see fit. THAT is Jupiter in Aries. Give thanks for all the ways our capabilities surprised us over the last year! Leave an offering for the personal records we beat. Honor the cords we had to cut. Respect our right to move as we please.
But when Jupiter skirts into Taurus at the beginning of May, we may feel like that flame within us has been snuffed out. However, we have not lost our ambition. Less drive will be needed as we won’t have to do everything by ourselves anymore. In many ways, Venus, the sign that rules Taurus, is the opposite of Mars. Mars acquaints us with our own power when we need it to leave the pack and try something different. Mars gives us the strength to go out on our own when we can’t bring the old people, places, things, and thoughts with us. We can look at the house we have Sidereal Aries in to see where we “left the pack.” On the flip side, Venus brings us relationships with common ambitions and beliefs. As the natural order of the zodiac is Aries then Taurus, when we go out on our own and follow our true ambitions we are always met with the people and places that match our frequency. We’re met with the energies that we don’t have to fight.
Instead of leaving old beliefs behind, we get to build upon the new ones Jupiter in Aries formed. Instead of cutting relationships off, we get to grow with the ones those severances made space for. From autonomy to community, Jupiter in Taurus brings the stories we tell ourselves about culture, societal roles, belonging, conforming, and relating to the forefront. What we look like, how much material resource we have access to, and who we know will frame what we believe is possible for ourselves until May 14 2025 - when Jupiter enters Sidereal Gemini. A fixed sign and an earth sign, Sidereal Taurus is about our identity within the cultures we move around. Culture can be the ones we grew up in that are related to race, class, place of origin, religion, gender, sexuality, or health and mobility. Culture can be the ones found in groups centered around a specific interest, activity, or media. Culture is wherever people are gathered doing a similar thing and/or living in a similar way.
These cultures we dip in and out of will no doubt have explicit or unspoken rules about what makes everyone involved similar. While Jupiter in Aries had us believing we needed to break free from these standards, and we most certainly did, Jupiter in Taurus challenges us to believe in being like everyone else again. This of course doesn’t mean that we should abandon ourselves to fit in - although we surely will be tempted to do so multiple times over the next year - and we will probably succumb to that temptation a time or two. But that’s okay; we’re learning.
Over the next year we should ask ourselves:
What beliefs do we have about being accepted and fitting in?
What do we think will happen when we seek connection?
What parts of ourselves do we believe we have to hide for people to like us?
How does our physical appearance affect the types of relationships we believe are possible for us?
Jupiter was last in Taurus May 16 2012 - May 30 2013. Do you remember how you were trying to fit in back then? That was the year I started middle school. Need I say more 💀😩? All of us have community wounds. But like it or not, Jupiter in Taurus will teach us that we will literally die without community! We can rewrite stories of past harm. We can find folks who are aligned with us. Jupiter in Taurus wants to teach us that cultural norms don’t have to be bad. It hopes we learn that real community is possible.
Jupiter in Taurus will also present us with the opportunity to expand how comfortable and cozy we believe our lives can be. Taurus appreciates luxury and looking and feeling good. Taurus loves fine art, delicious food, and good music. What are our beliefs around these things? How can we focus on the luck and blessings Jupiter wants to bestow us within these areas?
Another big difference between these two consecutive Jupiter transits is the aspect Jupiter makes with Saturn. In Aries, Jupiter made a sextile aspect with Saturn in Aquarius. Our expanding beliefs in personal power supported us in believing that our version of reality was real, even if others disagreed. Now, Jupiter in Taurus will make a square aspect with Saturn in Aquarius. This means that our beliefs about community will struggle with the parts of ourselves that want to ignore specific aspects of our material reality. Remember when I said Jupiter is gonna teach us we need other people or we’ll die? This is that. What does it mean for our self-determination and sovereignty when we align ourselves with a certain group identity? Hopefully we’ll know by next May!
