Synastry is the astrological study of relationships, specifically via the means of overlaying one person’s chart on top of another. A synastry chart consists of one birth chart inside of another. By viewing two charts this way, we can see how all the planets, signs, and houses between two charts or two people interact with each other. This plainly draws out all the many nuances of how two people’s lives intertwine with one another. Synastry's most commonly known use is within the context of romantic relationships. But, many people don’t realize how common it is for businesses to hire astrologers to analyze employee relationship dynamics. In my personal opinion, synastry is incredibly useful for friendships, family dynamics, and business partnerships, maybe even more so than for romantic relationships. Synastry can reduce relational conflict by helping us make peace with the natural way people are meant to fit into our lives.

Example synastry chart with the first person’s birth chart inside of the second person’s birth chart

Below is a list of what each planet means in a synastry context. In synastry, where and how one person’s planets fall into another’s chart shows what the first person brings to the relationship dynamic with the second person. For instance, if I’m looking at a synastry chart between me and my friend, where my Venus placement falls in their chart shows where and how in their life I bring the themes of ease, pleasure, art, attraction, and connection.
